The ‘Transport of the Year 2019’

Almost a whole year of preparation was necessary for the extraordinary transport that the KAHL Group carried out in North Rhine-Westphalia. The task: to take over 400 tonne generators each at a height of 13.4 metres above the floor, to get them out of a hall and transport one of the generators from a disused coal-fired power station to the Neurath power station some 90 kilometres away. The total weight was an impressive 798 tons. The vehicle, equipped with BPW axles, was 105 metres long and 4.68 metres wide, and was able to cope with several bottlenecks like this roundabout. The transport was preceded by simulations, static calculations, a risk assessment and coordination with representatives of the authorities – a major project that required a great deal of precision, know-how and the commitment of a strong team. This achievement was honoured: the Federal Specialist Group for Heavy Transport and Crane Work awarded it first place as ‘Transport of the Year 2019’.
