Giant pressure cooker on the motorway
Attention: the A26 motorway is completely closed – a 165-ton pressure cooker is on the road! This research autoclave, which works in a manner similar to the kitchen appliance, cures aircraft parts under high pressure and at a high temperature. The journey by ship and van from the manufacturing facility near Coesfeld to German Aerospace Center (Deutsches Zentrum für Luft- und Raumfahrt; DLR) Stade took more than two weeks. Transporting the 27-metre-long oven with a diameter of 6.50 metres via motorway was a particular challenge, but was completed successfully by the heavy-duty transport specialist Max Goll using the Goldhofer THP/ST modular vehicle. 20 axle units from BPW provided the necessary stability during transport.
